German crew member and Slovak manager die in suspected electrocution at an Indian hotel pool as two rescuers are injured
Alexander Maximilian Theiss, 57, a Lufthansa crew member from Germany, and Juraj Horvat, 45, a Slovak IBM project manager, died at the Conrad Bengaluru hotel pool on Friday evening in what police believe was an electrical leak. Both were hotel guests at the time of the incident in the city's Halasuru neighbourhood. Bengaluru police commissioner Seemant Kumar Singh said investigators were still waiting on medical, technical and expert findings before the cause could be confirmed.
After all four victims were taken to Manipal Hospital — where Theiss was already dead on arrival — the pool area was sealed off for investigation.
American guest Mathew Desantis, 41, and pool attendant and lifeguard Rahul Tiwari, 28, sustained injuries while trying to rescue the two men.
The Conrad Bengaluru is owned by Hilton Worldwide Holdings; Lufthansa issued a statement in response to the incident.
