German interior minister blames 'migrant troublemakers' and violent left-wingers for a weekend of riots and looting in Frankfurt and Berlin

Alexander Dobrindt, Germany's interior minister, pointed to 'violent left-wing groups and troublemakers from the migrant community' for hijacking otherwise peaceful youth demonstrations, after over 100,000 protesters took to German streets on Saturday demanding better education, cheaper housing and lower living costs. More than 100 officers were injured and 54 people aged between 13 and 29 were arrested across Frankfurt, Berlin, Hamburg and Cologne.
Rioters in Frankfurt attacked police with fireworks, stones and bottles after dark, looting at least five businesses and damaging 17 more.
France is bracing for fresh student protest chaos as the continent-wide movement — dubbed 'Europe's hot autumn' — shows no sign of stopping.
Dobrindt vowed that rioters 'will be identified and held accountable', promising tough penalties and crediting police water cannons with preventing Paris-style excesses.
