Annika Kreten, a 39-year-old German government worker, is suing London-based Transforma Travel Group in the High Court after being trapped inside a capsized two-storey river boat during a Cambodia sunset cruise in November 2022. Her lawyers say her lungs filled with water and she lost consciousness as the vessel overbalanced while passengers climbed onto the roof to jump into the River Kampot. She claims the near-death experience has left her incapable of working or leading an independent life.
Transforma Travel Group has accepted full responsibility for the accident but is disputing the £12m damages claim.
The firm was founded by Shropshire-based Ramsey Kerr, 38, following a gap-year backpacking trip to China in 2011, and operates 31-day 'Dragon Trip' south-east Asia adventures priced at around £2,000.
Kreten was on one of those Dragon Trips — a tour covering Thailand, Laos, Vietnam and Cambodia — when the boat capsized during what was advertised as a 'sunset BBQ cruise'.
