German union brands Audi boss 'highly embarrassing' for joining Trump at a Georgia rally to unveil a $4bn factory plan
Gernot Döllner (left) with Donald Trump. IG Metall chief Christiane Benner branded the Audi CEO's rally appearance "highly embarrassing", saying it breached the carmaker's political neutrality rules.
Left Party leader Luigi Pantisano says Audi CEO Gernot Döllner 'must go'. Döllner took the stage in Perry, Georgia, nine days before the US midterms. The planned plant would build 200,000 SUVs a year and create around 4,500 US jobs. Parent group Volkswagen is preparing to cut up to 100,000 jobs and close four factories in Germany.
VW works council chief Daniela Cavallo said staff 'must have wanted to sink into the ground in shame'.
Döllner hit back: 'If the American president invites you, you accept the invitation.'
Supervisory board member Olaf Lies says the final investment decision 'has not yet been made'.
