A 68-year-old driver remained at the scene and was arrested on suspicion of causing death by careless driving. The school called the news a "terrible shock," adding that losing "such a young life, so full of promise" was "deeply heartbreaking." Specially trained officers are supporting the girl's family, and road closures remained in place.

Addison Lee released a statement confirming the car was one of theirs.

The London Ambulance Service, London Fire Brigade and London Air Ambulance all attended the scene on North Road.

Highgate School said the girl 'will be greatly missed' and pledged to support pupils, staff and the wider community in their grief.
