Good Good Golf CEO threatens to sue Callaway after being asked to 'take the fall' over woman-shoving ad
Matt Kendrick alleged that Callaway tried to buy its way out of the controversy with a $1 million donation to domestic violence charities before ending its three-year partnership with Good Good.Alexis Miestowski is at the centre of the row over an ad in which she is shoved to the ground by Good Good co-founder Garrett Clark.
Good Good Golf CEO Matt Kendrick launched a 3am social media rant accusing Callaway Golf of approving the controversial ad and then dropping his brand in a "coordinated media blitz" to save itself. Kendrick said he was "not opposed" to suing Callaway "for every single penny they're owed plus damages." Staff at Good Good have been fired over the ad, in which co-founder Garrett Clark shoved female golfer Alexis Miestowski to the ground and stood over her shouting, "Do not touch my new driver."
Callaway cut ties with Good Good "effective immediately" and pledged $1 million to organisations dedicated to combating violence against women.
Good Good has also withdrawn as the PGA Tour event title sponsor in Texas this November, and Golf Channel cancelled its upcoming Good Good reality TV show.
In a grim twist, Good Good's newly hired president Joe Flannery began his role on the very day the ill-fated ad launched.
