'Good idea': Musk says merging SpaceX and Tesla is under active consideration in what would be one of history's largest mergers

Elon Musk revealed on a SpaceX results call on Tuesday that special committees at both firms are examining the tie-up. He warned they have not agreed terms and 'there's no guarantee that they will'. Any deal would need shareholders' backing. With Tesla valued at roughly $1.5 trillion and SpaceX at $2 trillion, SpaceX shares rose 8% in after-hours trading.

SpaceX has lost $1.1bn this year despite its compute arm bringing in $7.5bn.
