The Criminal Bar Association said barristers were unable to proceed with trials after the Cloud Video Platform went down. Lloyds, Halifax, HSBC, Rightmove, Royal Mail and NHS England were among those also affected. Google said a full recovery was provisionally expected by 2pm.

Barristers warned that efforts to clear the crippling court backlogs were 'hampered'.

Google's suggested fix was for customers to move their workloads elsewhere.
