Google Cloud services are largely back up after a 'power event' at a London data centre hit banks and courts

Google says the issue is now affecting only a 'very small' number of customers and has apologised 'to all who are affected'. The outage began just after 7am in its europe-west2 region covering London. The Criminal Bar Association reported that barristers in England and Wales could not 'proceed with trials and other hearings'. Revolut users were unable to make card payments or access cash withdrawals.

Halifax, HSBC, Lloyds, DPD, and e-bike service Forest were among those also affected.

As of midday, Google was still telling disrupted customers to migrate their work to alternative services.

One pub manager who had fallen back on pen and paper said 'the millennium bug has finally struck'.
