Google is to investigate after a power outage at its London datacentre hit banks, courts and businesses

By 3pm on Tuesday Google said only a 'very small' number of customers were still affected, and has promised a full analysis once its internal investigation concludes. The Criminal Bar Association reported that trials across England and Wales were brought to a halt for barristers. Revolut users were left unable to make card payments, transfers or cash withdrawals. Experts warn the outage highlights dangerous dependence on a small number of dominant tech companies.

A 'power event' in Google's europe-west2 region, its only UK site, triggered the failures.

Halifax, HSBC, DPD, and Forest, an e-bike service, were among those affected.

One pub manager said: 'It feels a bit like the millennium bug has finally struck.'
