Revolut customers found themselves locked out of card payments, money transfers, cash withdrawals and even basic logins after Google's europe-west2 zone failed. Downdetector recorded over 1,500 complaints about Revolut alone. HSBC, Lloyds, Halifax, Royal Mail and DPD were among the other services knocked offline. Google reported by 3pm that only 'a very small number of customers' remained affected, and the public were advised to keep emergency cash to hand.

After the HMCTS cloud video platform failed, scheduled court hearings had to be suspended.

Google apologised and directed affected businesses to shift their workloads to an alternative zone.

Experts warn the outage shows Britain's dangerous reliance on a few tech giants.
