Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis called for a global maritime truce on Thursday after a Greek-flagged container ship was struck by drones and sank in the Black Sea off Bulgaria's coast. All crew members were rescued after the attack. Mitsotakis condemned the strikes and demanded an immediate halt to attacks on civilian shipping worldwide.

The ship sank after being hit by drones, marking one of the most significant attacks on commercial vessels in the Black Sea since the Russia-Ukraine war began.

Greece's PM called on all parties to commit to a maritime ceasefire, warning that attacks on civilian shipping threatened global trade and international law.

Romania and NATO allies are monitoring the Black Sea situation closely after the attack occurred within the alliance's immediate neighbourhood.
