Group is recruiting members to join Greens to back 'Zionism is racism' motion that could see Jewish members reported for attending synagogues

A campaign to recruit new members into the Green Party specifically to support a 'Zionism is racism' motion has links to activists calling for pro-Israel 'infiltrators' to be rooted out of the party. The motion, chosen by members as a top conference priority, would treat Zionism "as any other form of racism" — meaning Jewish Greens who attend most UK synagogues could face disciplinary proceedings for racism. A straw poll at a party workshop rejected protection for affected Jewish members by 67 votes to 24.
Jewish member Sam Alston warned that targeting synagogue-attending members would amount to 'indirect religious discrimination'.
Around 65 per cent of British Jews define themselves as Zionist, meaning the motion would effectively expose the majority of Jewish members to complaints.
Delegates are set to vote on the motion at the Green Party's annual conference this weekend.
