Gunman fires shots at Edinburgh pub during a wake for a gang war suspect, leaving one person injured

Mourners had gathered at the Robin's Nest on Gilmerton Road to mark the passing of Paul MacAulay, 40, killed weeks earlier in a motorbike crash as he fled police. He had reportedly been described as cocaine baron Mark Richardson's 'right hand man'. Police Scotland called the 9.15pm Friday attack 'targeted', though no suspect has been identified. Det Insp Dougal Begg described it as 'extremely reckless'.

MacAulay was among 82 people arrested in Operation Portaledge, Police Scotland's gang-war crackdown.

The shooting is reportedly being seen as a serious escalation, with it described as a miracle nobody was killed.

Residents assumed the gunfire was 'fireworks' until armed police closed the road.
