Hackers turn supermarket freezers up to 50C across Europe weeks after the French attack, as warnings are issued to the UK

Dozens of supermarkets across Sweden, Belgium, Luxembourg and Estonia had their refrigeration systems sabotaged overnight, with freezer temperatures deliberately set as high as 50C by hackers, forcing stores to discard spoiled food. IKEA has confirmed it was also caught up in the incident, and Sweden's national cyber-security centre says it is working multiple cases simultaneously. The attack follows a near-identical strike on hundreds of French supermarkets last month, which caused food losses and fires and is still under investigation by France's national cybersecurity agency.

Swedish chains ICA and Coop confirmed affected stores, while Belgium's Delhaize and Carrefour Belgium reported fifteen locations hit.

France has been coordinating with European counterparts since its October attack, with investigators warning other nations remain vulnerable.

Concerns are now growing that domestic fridges could be the next target, with warnings being issued to UK households.
