Hackney Council has launched a food safety and hygiene investigation into Shoreditch House on Ebor Street, one of the celebrity-favourite chain's flagship UK venues, after chef Kamran Khan, 30, alleged he was dismissed on 25 September for alerting the council to a practice of replacing expired food labels — a claim Soho House's own internal inquiry found to be supported by evidence. Khan told BBC News he had been warned at a probation meeting that failing to personally relabel food would be treated as a performance issue.
Soho House insists Khan's dismissal was 'entirely unrelated' to his complaints, but Khan says he was let go only eight days after he reported the club to the council.
Khan has further alleged a rat infestation at the venue; Soho House has not addressed that claim but says relabelling food is not company policy.
In a video posted to TikTok and X that has been viewed hundreds of thousands of times, Khan said: 'I was fired after I complained about people changing labels.'
