A hacktivist collective operating under the name "Department of Peace" says it obtained the data by compromising DHS's Okta single sign-on platform, then handed the files to transparency nonprofit Distributed Denial of Secrets, which made them publicly accessible through a searchable database called Icepick. The incident is the third significant US government data breach in a month, coming after separate intrusions targeting the FBI and the Defence Department.

The leaked files expose which agents were involved in undercover missions, surveillance operations and computer forensics work, with technology firms Cellebrite and Palantir identified alongside details of specific operations.

'On July 17th, Mullin said he was turning up the heat — this is what happens to ICE when you do that,' the attackers said, citing DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin directly.

DHS says it is 'actively working to address the situation' but Okta insists there is 'no evidence' its own systems were compromised.
