Halloween mass shootings near US college campuses in Colorado and Michigan leave three students and partygoers dead and 30 wounded

At least 24 people were killed and 94 wounded in shootings across the United States on Halloween night, with violence stretching from California to Delaware as revellers mixed alcohol, costumes and firearms. In Dallas alone, three separate shootings in the Deep Ellum neighbourhood killed four people and injured 15. A gunman in a Michael Myers mask opened fire near Michigan State University in East Lansing, while in Boulder a group forced their way into a registered house party before shooting dead a University of Colorado student, 19, and critically wounding another.

Criminologist James Alan Fox ranks Halloween behind only July 4 and January 1 as the deadliest day of the year for gun violence in the US.

Boulder Police Chief Steve Redfearn confirmed that ring camera footage captured the two persons of interest departing the party, then doubling back and forcing their way inside.
