Stepdad accused of murdering student who was found dead on her 20th birthday declines to give evidence at trial
Carla Georgescu, whose body was found at Ribble Hall on what would have been her 20th birthday, was allegedly killed by Nathan Owens, driven by a "dangerously entrenched sexual obsession" with her.
Nathan Owens, 34, of Hartlepool, will not testify after the prosecution rested its case at Preston Crown Court. Mr Justice Jacobs confirmed that Owens understood jurors could 'draw such inferences as appear proper' from his silence. Owens denies murdering Carla Georgescu, 19, at Ribble Hall, and also denies strangulation and GBH.
Prosecutors allege a 'dangerously entrenched sexual obsession' drove him to kill her.
CCTV footage captured him heading to her halls at 4am, his head concealed beneath a blanket.
Her mother Janina was asleep at home and had no idea he had gone out.
