Tories demand Chancellor John Healey resign unless Wednesday's Budget funds the 3% defence target he HIMSELF set

Shadow chancellor Andrew Griffith says Healey must go if Wednesday's Budget fails to show how the UK reaches 3 per cent of GDP on defence by 2030. Healey quit Sir Keir Starmer's Cabinet over that very target. He is now expected to funnel billions into defence through the National Wealth Fund and British Business Bank. The cash would come from long-term borrowing.

Britain spends around 2.6% on core defence, while Nato allies have pledged 3.5% by 2035.

Specific details of the spending are not due until next year's spending review.
