Six flights across Europe received hoax bomb threats on Tuesday, with searches finding no explosives on any of the aircraft. Ryanair, Polish carrier LOT, and Scandinavian Airlines were among those affected; in at least two cases the threats arrived by email. All passengers and crew were safe.
A LOT service from Heathrow, with 181 people on board, was diverted to Warsaw's Modlin airport, which was temporarily closed while police and bomb disposal teams carried out security checks before it reopened at midday.
A Ryanair aircraft from Manchester, carrying 121 passengers, landed at Murcia in southern Spain, where the Civil Guard confirmed no explosives were discovered.
Tuesday's incidents came a day after a Wizz Air flight from Luton was intercepted by a Hungarian fighter jet and escorted to Budapest following a separate bomb threat, which also proved to be a hoax.
