Hero barber pulled the man is accused of ramming Australian MP Helen Haines from his car and seized his knife
Ricky Jefferies was finishing a family's haircuts in Wangaratta when he heard a 'loud bang' next door to his shop. He pulled the driver out of the LandCruiser, took a knife from his pocket and held him down until police arrived. Brendan Nugent, 43, has now been charged with intentionally causing serious injury. Haines, 65, lost a leg and remains critical.
Roadhouse worker Cody Lepoidevin said the suspect seemed 'more worried about his personal belongings'.
Witnesses say the driver reversed and struck Haines a second time.
Nugent's father says Haines has known the family for over 20 years.
