Oregon father who shot dead a school gunman apologises to grieving parents for 'not saving their babies'

Kaylub Giamanco, a 36-year-old carpenter, was only passing Silver Rail Elementary in Bend because he had skipped his packed lunch to eat leftover tacos at home. Three boys aged five, eight and 11 and teacher Megan Lambert, 25, were killed in the October 15 attack. He told a 911 dispatcher: 'I'm sorry, I have to go in. People are going to die.' He then followed the gunman inside.

Giamanco army-crawled toward the classroom after hearing children 'pleading for their lives'.

He credits a teacher who fought the 16-year-old gunman: 'a real true hero'.

President Trump hailed him as 'a great hero that went in and did the business'.
