Hero Flydubai pilot reveals head scars from cockpit axe attack after his co-pilot allegedly tried to crash the Tel Aviv flight

Captain Smit Machchhar accepted a UAE bravery medal on Thursday, publicly displaying the deep head wounds he suffered when co-pilot Hamam al-Hammami, 29, allegedly struck him with a crash axe in the cockpit of a Flydubai flight from Dubai to Tel Aviv. Al-Hammami is accused of trying to seize control of the aircraft and deliberately crash it. Machchhar fought back and landed the plane safely, saving everyone on board.
Al-Hammami, 29, allegedly grabbed the emergency crash axe kept in the cockpit and struck Machchhar repeatedly on the head during the flight.
Machchhar's scars, visible across his skull, were shown publicly for the first time as he received the UAE medal for extraordinary bravery.
The UAE has described Machchhar's actions as heroic; al-Hammami faces charges of terrorism and attempted murder.
