Hitler's Eagle's Nest in Germany is almost completely destroyed by fire as police detain a motorcyclist near the blaze
A smoke alarm went off at the Kehlsteinhaus above Berchtesgaden on Friday night, and crews arrived to find the building 'completely ablaze'. Around 200 firefighters needed breathing apparatus to work 1,834 metres up, and police say it is unlikely to be salvaged. Investigators suspect arson.
A motorcyclist approached officers heading to the scene and was followed and arrested.
Hitler met commanders there in 1941 to plan the invasion of the Soviet Union.
Drones are now banned over the peak, and hikers are told to stay away.
