Home Office bars 'How to Blow Up a Pipeline' author Andreas Malm from Britain before his Palestine Action panel
Andreas Malm, the Lund University human ecology professor who called the ban "scandalous" and urged the Burnham government to reconsider.
Andreas Malm, an associate professor of human ecology at Lund University, had his Electronic Travel Authorisation cancelled by the Home Office this week, with officials stating his presence in Britain "is not considered to be conducive to the public good." Malm told BBC Radio 4's Today programme he can see no explanation beyond his scheduled appearance alongside Palestine Action co-founder Huda Ammori at a Tribune magazine conference next Wednesday. The ban comes as Britain's Supreme Court is due to hear a challenge to Palestine Action's proscription under terrorism laws.
Malm's publisher Verso Books said 'never in over 55 years of publishing has a British government revoked the right of one of our authors to enter the country.'
Sally Rooney, whose books were pulled from UK sale over her support for Palestine Action, called the ban 'a sad and frightening act of cultural self-harm.'
Jeremy Corbyn branded the decision 'absurd and outrageous', accusing the Burnham government of trying to silence criticism of Israel.
