Clifford Foster, an out-of-work plasterer, is accused of being inside a flat at the Ger-Y-Nant complex in Bridgend when the mother-of-two told him he should not be there. Police say she was stabbed, drove a short distance and collapsed at the wheel on Coity Road. Her alleged attacker then barricaded himself in a room, prompting an armed response. Residents were evacuated.

Foster had reportedly been staying at a nearby 'halfway house' run by a homeless charity.

The Welsh Ambulance Service called claims of a long ambulance wait 'factually untrue'. It says a response unit arrived seven minutes after the call.

Her family said: 'She meant everything to us... She was our rock.'
