Houthis kill five and injure 16 in missile strike on Yemen's presidential palace in Aden

Iran-backed Houthi rebels fired missiles and drones at the Maashiq Palace in Aden on Thursday in the first strike of the current conflict on Yemen's official government headquarters, killing five people including guards and civilian employees. Health minister Qasim Buhaibeh confirmed the casualties, while information minister Moammar al-Eryani said prime minister Shaya al-Zindani and cabinet members were unharmed.
The attack is the first in this conflict on the Maashiq Palace, the seat of Yemen's internationally recognised government, with witnesses describing massive explosions and smoke visible over a mile away.
Houthi military spokesperson Yahya Saree claimed fighters had targeted a 'Saudi military operations headquarters' in Aden, framing the strike as part of a wider campaign against Saudi reinforcements.
Fighting has sharply escalated since a 2022 truce collapsed, with Houthis restarting attacks on Saudi shipping and government forces launching a counteroffensive only last week to reclaim Houthi-held coastal territory.
