Dutch supermodel Lara Stone revealed on Instagram on Saturday that she has been diagnosed with breast cancer and is already undergoing treatment, saying she was "so grateful" the disease had been caught early. Stone, who shares 13-year-old son Alfred with comedian David Walliams, said she rarely discusses her private life online but felt compelled to speak out during Breast Cancer Awareness Month.

Fellow supermodel Karen Elson and model Lily Aldridge were among the fashion world figures to send messages of support.

Stone urged followers: 'Please don't ignore changes to your body' alongside a poster reading 'Check your breasts — it could save your life.'

She did not reveal the stage of the cancer, when she was diagnosed, or what treatment she is receiving.
