Humberside Police launch an e-scooter campaign and issue a warning to parents in the run-up to Christmas

Humberside Police officer Pete Musgrave is leading a pre-Christmas crackdown warning parents that e-scooters bought as gifts could land families in serious legal trouble if ridden on public roads. Private e-scooters remain illegal on roads and pavements in the UK, with riders facing fines and penalty points.

Parents are urged not to buy e-scooters as Christmas gifts without understanding the legal restrictions on where they can be used.

Only e-scooters used in government-approved rental trials are permitted on public roads — privately owned ones are banned.

Officers warn that riders caught breaking the rules risk losing their licence before they even have one.
