Patients at more than 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales have lost access to online booking after Silicon Practice, their website provider, ceased trading.

Silicon Practice, which supplied website and online booking services to over 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales, has ceased trading after its parent company Schappit went into administration. Wimbledon Medical Practice, which has more than 10,000 registered patients, has warned its site could remain offline for a minimum of two weeks. GPs are concerned the collapse will push more patients towards phone lines and reception desks that are already under pressure.

Practices in Gloucestershire, London and Wales are among those confirmed as affected by the sudden shutdown.

Until replacement websites are in place, patients can still use the NHS App to order repeat prescriptions and request fit notes.

NHS England has told affected practices to confirm mitigation plans with their local integrated care board.
