Hundreds of GP websites across England and Wales go offline after their tech provider collapses 'without warning'

Patients at more than 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales have lost access to online booking after Silicon Practice, their website provider, ceased trading.
Patients at more than 1,000 NHS GP practices in England and Wales have lost access to online booking after Silicon Practice, their website provider, ceased trading.

Silicon Practice, which claims to serve 1,000 GP websites and has partnered with the NHS since 2005, collapsed after its parent company Schappit Ltd filed a notice of administration earlier this month — leaving patients unable to book appointments or submit queries online. NHS England confirmed fewer than 10% of its more than 6,000 practices are affected, with surgeries in London, Gloucestershire, Hertfordshire and Swansea among those hit.

Wimbledon Medical Practice, which has over 10,000 registered patients, warned it expects to be without a website for AT LEAST TWO WEEKS.

GPs have raised concerns the outages will place additional strain on phone lines and reception staff, both already running at capacity.
