Hurricane Trudy brings 100mph winds and torrential rain to Mexico's Pacific coast as saturated ground raises the risk of landslides

The Category 2 storm is forecast to pass near the coast through Sunday before turning northwest. A hurricane warning covers the stretch from Manzanillo in Colima state up to Cabo Corrientes in Jalisco. Forecasters expect 4 to 8 inches of rain across Michoacan, Colima and Jalisco, with isolated spots seeing up to 15 inches. The National Hurricane Center has warned of life-threatening flooding and mudslides.

Colima officials call the immediate danger low but fear soil soaked by earlier storms.

Mexico's navy has urged both mariners and coastal residents to take extreme caution.

Tropical-storm-force winds reach up to 140 miles from Trudy's centre.
