Hurricane Vance intensifies rapidly off Mexico's Pacific coast and could become a major Category 3 storm
The storm only reached hurricane strength on Friday, and forecasters now warn it could hit major status. Its name has sent social media into overdrive, with posts placing Vice President JD Vance's face at the centre of the storm's eye. The storm is not named after him. Vance was simply next on a World Meteorological Organization list of Pacific names.
Vance follows Hurricane Trudy, which attained hurricane strength in the same waters off Mexico's Pacific coast last week.
The WMO reuses its alphabetical storm-name lists every six years, alternating male and female names.
