Former associates of Huw Edwards have gone public with their opposition to his planned television return, calling him a "loose cannon" with "no self-awareness." Edwards, 65, was handed a six-month suspended sentence in 2024 after pleading guilty to possession of indecent images of children, and has since taken to his blog to claim that media reporting on his offending was "disproportionate." He has grown a Substack audience and made approaches to daytime TV programmes, with those closest to him said to be encouraging his return to public life while warning that things "will only get worse" now his sentence is spent.

Edwards reportedly believes he might never have faced prosecution had it not been for his public profile and media fame.

After amassing more than 1,000 Substack subscribers, he is said to be planning a tell-all book presenting his "side of the story."

Those around him backing the comeback reportedly "probably think all is forgiven now his sentence is spent."
