'I could say the 'stupidest things' and you'd clap': Trump mocks his own supporters to their faces at Tennessee rally

President Donald Trump told a MAGA crowd in Clarksville, Tennessee, that their devotion to him was so unconditional he could say "the stupidest things" and they would still cheer — and the crowd promptly laughed and applauded, proving his point. Trump then wore a lovesick expression and sang out "Oh, I love you so much" in apparent mockery of his own fans before walking back the jibe. The remarks came as midterm elections on November 3 approach, with Trump warning the crowd: "If we don't win the midterms, they're going to blame me."
Trump also predicted a "1920s-style depression" if Democrats win November's midterms and promised every American adult $5,000 if Republicans take the House.
A Fox News host has since roasted Trump over the remark, and critics on social media declared 'nobody has more contempt for Trump's fans than Trump.'
The Tennessee rally clip drew comparisons to Trump's notorious 2016 boast that he could "stand in the middle of Fifth Avenue and shoot somebody" and still not lose voters.
