'I don't trust Him': Billy Crystal says he has lost faith in God after losing his home and Rob Reiner

Billy Crystal, 78, has revealed he no longer trusts God after enduring what he calls the worst year of his life — the January 2025 Palisades wildfire destroyed his family home of 46 years, and director Rob Reiner and his wife Michele were murdered in December. Crystal told CBS Sunday Morning bluntly: "No, because I don't trust Him. Too many bad things have happened. The Earth is in bad shape. This is a weird, scary time." His new Broadway one-man show, '860', named after his lost home's street address, opens on October 21 at the Imperial Theatre.
Reiner helped Crystal name the show before his death, saying '860' was the one — Crystal's first instinct after a successful run-through was still to reach for the phone and call him.
Crystal and the Reiners had been together at a holiday party the very night before the murders, saying goodbye around 10:30pm — he says the loss is "too big" and "so insane" to absorb.
Lindsay Crystal found a garden rock in the ruins engraved with the word 'Laughter' — the same quality her father says has carried him through every tragedy since his own father died when Crystal was 15.
