'I feel like an old car': London Uber drivers protest at robotaxi firm Wayve over fears for their jobs

Abdurzak Hadi, 50, has driven for Uber for more than 12 years and wants the robotaxi rollout stopped 'completely'. He told Mayor Sadiq Khan to 'speak out' for drivers. The App Drivers and Couriers Union called drivers 'collateral damage' and demanded compensation. The first driverless trial began last month, and a full commercial rollout is expected in 2027 if regulators approve it.

Hadi said the protest was personal: 'I'm not a car, I'm a human being.'

Green councillor Amandine Alexandre said Khan opposed Heathrow expansion but has stayed quiet on robotaxis.

GMB's James Rossi said tech companies should pay to retrain drivers who lose their jobs.
