'I love the meat': Trump mocks Democrat James Talarico over vegan claims he denies at Texas rally for Paxton
Ken Paxton, the Republican Senate candidate Donald Trump visited Texas twice in one day to campaign for, trails or ties Democrat James Talarico in most polls.
President Donald Trump's Texas midterm rallies for Republican Senate candidate Ken Paxton descended into a series of bizarre digressions that left social media baffled and Republicans nervously eyeing next Tuesday's vote. Trump claimed Talarico — who is not a vegan — was secretly "food poisoned by meat," mimed eating while making strange noises, and speculated the Democrat was "behind the tent puking." He also revived his running commentary on Ohio senator Jon Husted's physique, telling the Lubbock crowd he had begun by "studying his ass" before moving on to his "sausage-like" fingers.
Paxton is trailing or tied with Talarico in most polls in what should be a safely Republican Texas seat.
Trump told the Corpus Christi crowd a ship docked outside carrying one million Venezuelan barrels of oil was being provided to the US "at zero cost to the American taxpayer."
Husted told reporters he was "in the weight room this morning" because he did not "want to let Trump down" ahead of the president's third Ohio visit in under 30 days.
