'I'm about to go kill this kid': Authorities release 911 call of the Oregon dad who stopped a school shooter

Kaylub Giamanco, the Oregon father who shot dead a gunman inside a school last month, told a 911 dispatcher "I'm about to go kill this kid" before entering the building and opening fire on the attacker. Authorities have now released the recording, revealing the moment he warned the operator he would shoot "right now if I have to."

Giamanco stayed on the line with the 911 dispatcher throughout, showing what reporters described as extraordinary resolve under pressure.

The shooting took place at a school in Oregon last month; Giamanco, armed at the time, intervened before police could arrive on the scene.

The release of the call has drawn widespread attention to the question of armed civilians stopping mass shootings in real time.
