'I'm the one': Trump says he ordered the DOJ to sue Alaska to block certification if Republican Dan Sullivan loses
The Justice Department claims a second candidate, retired Petersburg teacher Daniel J Sullivan Jr, will confuse voters and drain support from Senator Dan Sullivan. President Donald Trump accuses Democrats of planting him, saying 'the Democrats put up a guy'. The other Sullivan denies any such plot. Democrat Mary Peltola leads 51 per cent to 49 in one poll before the November 3 vote.
The Alaska Supreme Court had already rejected Republican bids to strike him off the ballot.
Federal lawyers allege his 'sole purpose' is to help Peltola by siphoning the senator's votes.
Attorney General Todd Blanche had refused to rule out moves to block states certifying results.
