Rhianna Dhillon, BBC 6 Music's film and TV critic, has revealed she was diagnosed with ovarian cancer two weeks ago and has already undergone a full hysterectomy, with six months of chemotherapy now ahead of her. The 37-year-old carries the BRCA1 genetic mutation and had previously had a preventative double mastectomy in an attempt to reduce her cancer risk. She shared the news from her hospital bed on Instagram, vowing to keep working through treatment.
Dhillon said ovarian cancer 'mostly affects women over 50' and admitted she 'wasn't expecting to get it QUITE so young.'
Despite the hysterectomy, Dhillon said she plans to continue working, joking her 'film awards season is going to look slightly different.'
She said she will 'take all wig recommendations very seriously' but is 'not ready yet for platitudes about silver linings.'
