'I woke up and knew': Monty Don reveals the moment he decided to quit Gardeners' World after 23 years

Monty Don, 71, says the job never switched off: 'When I go home I take the job with me, seven days a week, 24 hours a day.' The decision came one morning this summer, and he compared it to sportspeople who 'just know'. He has already filmed his final episode at his Herefordshire garden, Longmeadow. It will air on November 6.

Frances Tophill is the 7/4 favourite to replace him, with Adam Frost at 2/1.

Don took over from Alan Titchmarsh in 2002 and later took three years out after a minor stroke.
