Ilhan Omar's lawyers demand seized items back after immigration fraud raid as DOJ says letter is 'riddled with false allegations'
Ilhan Omar and Sahra Noor. Federal investigators have subpoenaed Sahra Noor as part of a criminal fraud probe into Omar's immigration paperwork.
Omar's legal team branded the investigation 'vindictive, retributive, and politically motivated', saying there is 'no legitimate basis' for any citizenship claim. Justice Department spokesperson Emily Covington said agents 'complied with all court orders'. Investigators are examining whether Omar's birth year was falsified to allow her to obtain citizenship while still a minor. The 44-year-old faces voters on 3 November.
Agents built the case on family texts from her sister Sahra Noor's seized phone.
House Majority Whip Tom Emmer says Omar should be jailed and deported if fraud is proven.
Federal agents reportedly searched Omar's rubbish for DNA before raiding her Washington home.
