India jails 'Cockroach' protest leaders for five days after they scaled barricades at banned Delhi rally site

An Indian court has sentenced Ashutosh Ranka and Saurav Das, leaders of the youth-led Cockroach Janta Party, to five days in jail after they climbed barricades to enter Jantar Mantar, Delhi's historic protest site, which authorities have now banned for demonstrations. The pair were demanding the resignation of election chief Gyanesh Kumar over voter list changes critics say favour Modi's BJP. A third leader, released on bond, vowed the party would not be "frightened" and pledged to end what he called a "dictatorial government."
