Indian migrant Deepak Sandhu is jailed for life after stabbing woman to death at London Airbnb nine months after his visa was revoked

Deepak Sandhu, 24, bought knives and travelled to Earl's Court to kill sex worker Xiaoqing Ke, 39, after she confronted him over £500 he had stolen from her handbag. His student visa had been cancelled six months after he dropped out of a Southampton university in 2024, yet he remained in Britain unlawfully for a further nine months before carrying out the murder. The Old Bailey sentenced him to life after a jury rejected his claim that Ke was still alive when he left her flat.

Sandhu and Ke had first met at a Southampton brothel and kept a secret relationship going through a translation app, he communicating in Punjabi and she in Mandarin.

Prosecutor Caroline Carberry KC described Sandhu as a 'fantasist' who had become an 'obsessed, manipulative young man' unable to accept rejection.

Ke was found face down on her bedroom floor on 10 December last year, killed by a deep stab wound to the neck; Sandhu acknowledged in court that he was a 'pathological liar'.
