Indonesia's president sacks his chief of staff after he and two police generals are detained on suspicion of wiretapping him

Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto has fired his Presidential Chief of Staff, Gen. Listyo Sigit Prabowo, following the detention of Listyo and two senior generals — Insp. Gen. Ahrie Sonta Nasution and Insp. Gen. Eko Hadi Santoso — on suspicion of illegally wiretapping the president, dozens of officials, politicians and journalists between 2025 and 2026.

The alleged surveillance targeted phone numbers fed into Indonesia's Lawful Interception Management System outside the legal procedures established in 2010.

Investigators have seized 11 mobile phones, an iPad and four flash drives, and have already questioned ten witnesses and three expert witnesses.

Listyo held the position of National Police chief during the period when the wiretapping is alleged to have taken place, making him the most senior figure among the three suspects in custody.
