Investigation is under way after an explosion tore through the world's largest oat mill in Iowa without injuring anyone
A post confirming no injuries in the explosion, as Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell called it 'a blessing' that the blast struck a lightly staffed part of the Cedar Rapids plant.
Quaker Oats owner PepsiCo says it will investigate how Saturday's fire started at its Cedar Rapids plant. Mayor Tiffany O'Donnell said the blast hit a product-handling area 'not heavily populated' with staff, 'which of course in this case was a blessing'. Crews arrived at 4:45pm to heavy smoke and flames on the north side. Officials said the fire was under control by 6:55pm but 'not necessarily out'.
The mill processes more than 2 million pounds of oats every day.
St Luke's Hospital reportedly sent an all-hands-on-deck text to staff during the emergency.
Witness Dan Gardner said: 'Quaker Oats is a staple of this town.'
