Iran brands Royal Navy and RAF 'terrorist organisations' and declares MI6 a 'hostile group' over Britain's role in the war
Royal Navy and RAF vessels on escort duty in May, as Tehran cited Britain's provision of military bases and logistical support for the US-Israeli campaign as grounds for the designations.
Iran's Foreign Ministry declared the designations effective immediately on Sunday under authorisation from the Supreme National Security Council, citing Britain's "illegal and hostile actions" over the past year — including allowing US and Israeli forces to use RAF Fairford as a launchpad for strikes that killed then-Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei in February.
Tehran explicitly linked the move to the UK's July 13 decision to place Iran's Revolutionary Guard under the State Threats Act.
The designation of MI6 as a 'hostile group' could expose anyone accused of working with the agency to prosecution under Iranian espionage law.
Two men have already been charged under Britain's National Security Act over a security incident outside RAF Fairford on September 27, which PM Andy Burnham linked to Iranian involvement.
