Iran has made a 'major shift' to targeting UK military sites, MI5 chief Ken McCallum warns
Police officers detain suspects near RAF Fairford in Gloucestershire, as Andy Burnham has told MPs the plot was "almost certainly" directed by Iran's Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
MI5 director general Ken McCallum has revealed that Iran is now actively targeting British military sites, describing a dramatic escalation beyond its traditional operations against Iranian dissidents and Jewish sites. The suspected plot against RAF Fairford in September, which forced the US to withdraw its bombers, is "not unique," McCallum said, warning of similar attempts in the UK and abroad. Prime Minister Andy Burnham has said the Fairford plot was "almost certainly" directed by Iran's Revolutionary Guard. Seven men in their 20s were detained and subsequently bailed.
Iran has also been linked, through proxies, to fire-raising and sabotage operations targeting Jewish sites across Britain.
